The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call today at 5:58 p.m. for lost hikers on the Waimano Ridge Trail in Pearl City. Five resource units staffed with 16 personnel responded. The first fire fighters arrived at the scene at 6:09 p.m. Based on the hiker’s 911 call, the geo-location coordinates placed them at about two miles in from the trailhead. Because dusk was approaching, rescue specialists were inserted by air and made contact with the three-member hiking group at 6:27 p.m. After determining that there were no injuries, each hiker was individually extracted by Air 1 and airlifted to a landing zone located nearby on Waimano Home Road. The third hiker arrived safely at the landing zone at 6:59 p.m. All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.
