The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 7:43 a.m. on June 5, 2021 for a building fire at 91-1159 Kamakana Street in the Seabridge by Gentry community in Ewa.

Seven HFD units, staffed with 23 personnel responded to the fire. The 911 caller reported that the overhead garage door melted from the heat of the fire and blew out the garage door windows. Upon arrival, the first-in Fire Captain observed smoke and flames emanating from the garage of a two-story, residential house. After securing a water supply, an offensive attack was initiated focusing on the garage while forcible entry techniques were used to remove the remnants of the garage door to gain access. The fire was called under control at 8:00 a.m. and fully extinguished a short time later.

At least one occupant was in the home at the time of the fire and was able to escape before HFD units arrived. There were no reported injuries.

A Fire Investigator has been called to the scene. The origin and cause of the fire are still under investigation. Damage estimates are not yet available.

Fire Safety Tips
• Working smoke alarms save lives, cutting the risk of dying in a home fire in half. Smoke alarms should be installed and maintained in every home.
• Home fire sprinklers protect lives by keeping fires small. Sprinklers can reduce the heat, flames, and smoke produced in a fire, allowing people more time to escape\
• Make a home escape plan. Draw a map of each level of the home. Show all doors and windows. Go to each room and point to the two ways out. Practice the plan with everyone in your household, including visitors.
