The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 12:40 p.m. for a multiple vehicle accident on the Moanalua Freeway near Fort Shafter. Four resources from HFD with approximately 14 personnel were dispatched to the scene. The first unit arrived on scene at 12:43 p.m. and reported a total of five vehicles involved in the accident on both sides of the freeway. Vehicle occupants were able to exit their cars on their own or with the assistance of bystanders. One driver reportedly suffered serious injuries, while the others reported minor injuries. One patient was transported by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to a local emergency room. All others refused emergency medical treatment. HFD assisted EMS with patient care then remained at the scene to clear the road of debris and hazardous fluids.

● When approaching the scene of an accident where First Responders are working, proceed with extreme caution.
● Give Responders room to work.
● Follow the instructions of Honolulu Police Department Personnel and avoid “rubbernecking.”
