HFD RESCUES BOATER IN DISTRESS

The HFD received a 911 call at 12:50 p.m. for a boater who fell overboard while sailing one mile offshore of Diamond Head. Four HFD units staffed with 13 personnel responded. The first unit arrived at scene and established command at 1:02 p.m. HFD personnel launched a rescue boat, arrived at the patient and transferred the patient from Ocean Safety’s watercraft to HFD’s rescue boat. Rescue personnel made a patient assessment. After declining medical attention, rescue personnel returned the boater to his vessel.

• To meet U.S. Coast Guard requirements, a recreational vessel must have
a U.S. Coast Guard Approved lifejacket for each person aboard.
