The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 1:42 a.m. for an auto accident near the intersection of Lanikuhana Avenue and Kuahelani Avenue. Four HFD units responded with approximately 14 personnel. The first unit arrived at 1:48 a.m. and reported that a small SUV struck a tree on Lanikuhana Avenue. Two people were in the car at the time, one person was able to get out on their own. The second patient had to be removed by HFD using extrication tools, also known as the “Jaws of Life.” Both patients were transported to a local hospital by Emergency Medical Services in serious condition.
