rescue an injured hiker on the Lanikai Pillbox Trail. Five HFD units, staffed with
approximately 16 personnel, responded. The first unit arrived at the scene at 10:24 a.m.

The 911 caller said she and a 40-year-old male had been hiking for about one hour when
the male injured his ankle.

The HFD’s Air 1 airlifted two personnel up near the top of the ridge where they hiked into an
area and made contact with the injured hiker at approximately 10:35 a.m. Rescuers
splinted the patient’s right ankle and placed him onto a rescue stretcher then carried him to
an extraction point where he was loaded onto Air 1. His companion was not injured and
walked down the trail on her own.

Meanwhile, the HFD incident commander had requested that the Emergency Medical
Services (EMS) respond to the Lanikai Neighborhood Park which was established as a
landing zone.

Air 1 then transported the injured hiker to the landing zone at Lanikai Neighborhood Park
where patient care was transferred to the EMS at 11:06 a.m.
