The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 2:17 a.m. for an auto accident near the intersection of Waialae Avenue and Kapahulu Avenue. Four HFD units responded with approximately 14 personnel. The first HFD unit arrived at 2:21 a.m. and reported a single vehicle accident with two occupants. Two adult males in their early 20s were involved in the accident. The driver of the car was able to get out on his own, but the passenger was still pinned inside the vehicle. There was significant damage to the car and the passenger was unable to get out without the help of rescuers. Fire fighters used battery powered hydraulic rescue tools (Jaws of Life) to get the passenger out of the car. He was transported to a local hospital by Emergency Medical Services in “serious” condition with injuries to his leg.
