UPDATE: HFD DETERMINES ORIGIN, FIRE DAMAGE ESTIMATES AND LOCATES FATALLY INJURED PET IN KAILUA HOME FIRE

UPDATE: The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) Fire Investigator has determined the origin and fire damage estimates for today’s fire at 343 Maluniu Avenue in Kailua. The fire originated in the bedroom of the rear unit of the single-story duplex with fire damages estimated at $360,000 to the building and $20,000 to the contents. It was also determined that the mother and her adult son were alerted of the fire by the smoke and the son had attempted to extinguish the fire prior to evacuating safely. Three cats were also found during a search of the home, one of which was fatally injured and the other two in critical condition. There were no smoke alarms in the home and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
