UPDATE: CAUSE OF KAILUA HOUSE FIRE IS ACCIDENTAL

UPDATE: The Honolulu Fire Department Fire Investigator has determined that the cause of the fire at 461 Kawailoa Road in Kailua on June 29, 2021, was accidental. The fire originated in the middle bedroom of a single-story structure attached to a two-story residential dwelling. The fire was a result of a youth playing with an open flame ignition source. The child alerted the adults who were home at the time about the fire. There were no injuries. Smoke detectors in the two-story structure activated at or around the time the occupants were evacuating. There were no smoke detectors in the attached single-story structure. Fire damages are estimated at $525,000 to the building and $25,000 to the contents.
