UPDATE: CAUSE OF MAPUNAPUNA TOWNHOUSE FIRE IS ACCIDENTAL DUE TO A FAILED E-CIGARETTE DEVICE

UPDATE: The Honolulu Fire Department Fire Investigator has classified the cause of the fire at 1730 Tiare Court in Mapunapuna on July 29, 2021 as accidental. The probable cause of the fire was due to a failed lithium-ion battery for an electronic cigarette device. No one was home in the two-story, single family duplex at the time of the fire. Neighbors heard smoke detectors sounding and saw smoke coming from the unit on fire. There were no injuries and no other properties were affected by this fire. Damages are estimated at $50,000 to the building and $1,500 to the contents.
