HFD RESCUES LOST HIKER NEAR THE KAAAWA FALLS TRAIL

The HFD received a 911 call at 3:13 this afternoon for a lost hiker near the Kaaawa Falls Trail. Four units, staffed with 12 personnel, responded. The first unit arrived at the scene at 3:29 p.m., established command and secured a landing zone at Swanzy Beach Park.

A 31-year-old-female was hiking for about seven hours before calling 911. She said she started on the Kaaawa Falls Trail then became disoriented and wandered off the trail. HFD’s Air 2 arrived at the landing zone where two rescue specialists boarded the aircraft. Air 2 then flew to the lost hiker via the Global Positioning System coordinates with her cell phone. Air 2 located the lost hiker then inserted a rescue specialist into her location where it was determined that the lost hiker was uninjured. The rescue specialist then packaged the lost hiker for extraction and Air 2 transported her to the landing zone at 4:32 p.m.
