The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 10:08 p.m. on August 14, 2021 for a two-vehicle collision, which also involved a telephone pole near the intersection of Hila Street and Farrington Highway. Four HFD units responded with approximately 14 personnel.

The first unit arrived at 10:13 p.m. and quickly established command. The initial HFD unit found that a pickup truck driver, a male in his early 50’s, was extricated by bystanders before their arrival. Medical care was transferred to an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) unit.

HFD crews used battery powered Hydraulic Rescue Tools (HRT) to free the other occupant of the same pickup truck, a male in his late 50’s. Reportedly his leg was pinned by the passenger door. Medical care was quickly handed off to the arriving EMS unit. All occupants of the other vehicle involved in the collision had already self-extricated and refused medical care by EMS.
