UPDATE: The Honolulu Fire Department Fire Investigator has determined the cause of the fire at 2827 Waialae Avenue in McCully on August 14, 2021 was intentionally set. The Investigation revealed that the fire originated in a corner bedroom on the first floor of the two-story, multi-unit building. The first floor sustained significant fire damage and
the second floor sustained minor fire damage.
The cause of this fire has been determined to have been incendiary and this incident has been referred to the Honolulu Police Department for further investigation and criminal prosecution. Damages are estimated at $340,000 to the building and $10,000 to its contents. The building was recently vacated in preparation for renovations. It was
not equipped with a working smoke alarm.
