The Honolulu Fire Department received a 911 call at 12:48 a.m. on August 18, 2021 for a building fire at 3152 Hinano Street in Kapahulu. Twelve HFD units, staffed with approximately 40 personnel, responded to the two-alarm, fully involved fire. The first unit arrived at the scene at 12:54 a.m. to find smoke and flames emanating from the middle of the single family, single story home. Fire fighters secured a water supply and began an initial attack for fire control.

A single male occupant, approximately 30-years-old, was uncooperative and had to be detained by the Honolulu Police Department with the assistance of fire personnel. HFD had the fire under control by 1:32 a.m. and extinguished at 2:12 a.m. A fire investigator was called to the scene and the cause of fire remains under investigation.

Fire Safety Tips
• Working smoke alarms save lives, cutting the risk of dying in a home fire in half.
Smoke alarms should be installed and maintained in every home.
• Home fire sprinklers protect lives by keeping fires small. Sprinklers can reduce
the heat, flames, and smoke produced in a fire, allowing people more time to
escape.
• A home fire sprinkler can control or put out a fire with a fraction of the water that
would be used by fire department hoses.
