UPDATE: AUWAIOLIMU STREET FIRE INTENTIONALLY SET

UPDATE: The Honolulu Fire Department Fire Investigator has determined the cause of the fire at 317 Auwaiolimu Street on September 27, 2021 was intentionally set. A neighbor, who called 911, smelled smoke and saw flames in the rear of single-story structure, which was vacant, unsecured and had already been damaged from a previous fire that occurred in 2020. Neighbors reported that squatters frequently accessed the property. The investigation revealed that this fire originated in the rear entryway and the cause of the fire was incendiary. Damage is estimated at $120,000 to the building. This incident has been referred to the Honolulu Police Department for further investigation and criminal prosecution.
