MEDIA ADVISORY: HONOLULU FIRE DEPARTMENT’S NEW ACCELERANT DETECTION CANINE

The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) will conduct a ceremony and demonstration to officially welcome Eve, its new Accelerant Detection Canine, to the HFD family.

Eve is a 2½-year-old yellow Labrador Retriever. Together, Eve and her Canine Handler, Micah Ancheta, completed 200 hours of training in the State Farm Arson Dog Program at the New Hampshire Fire Training Academy.

The HFD continues to improve its fire fighting and response capabilities. Chief Hao believes Eve enhances and improves the HFD with her amazing detection skills.

Who: The Honorable Mayor Rick Blangiardi, Fire Chief Sheldon Hao, and Mark Middleton with State Farm Insurance will speak.

What: HFD Welcome Ceremony and Demonstration

When: Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at 10 a.m.

Masks are required, and safety guidelines shall be followed. Parking for the media will be available on the HFD apron on South Street.

The Honolulu Fire Commission is accepting applications for the Fire Chief position.

*Permits are NONREFUNDABLE.
*A permit does NOT guarantee firecrackers are available for purchase.
*Permits are required to purchase and use firecrackers for special events and holidays.
*Purchased permits shall be picked up at designated Satellite City Halls, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
*Last day to purchase an online permit for New Year’s Eve and Day is midnight on December 21, 2021 .
