On September 16, 2022, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 11:50 a.m. for an injured hiker on the Kaala Trail in Waianae. A total of six HFD units, staffed with 17 personnel, were dispatched to this emergency. The first unit arrived at the scene at 11:58 a.m., established command and secured a landing zone at Kaupuni Neighborhood Park in Waianae.
A female in her 30s suffered an injury while hiking and was unable to descend the trail on her own. Air 1 inserted rescue personnel to the hiker’s location to conduct a medical assessment. The hiker was, then, packaged and airlifted to the nearby landing zone where medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 1:10 p.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
