On September 16, 2022, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 2:42 p.m. for three hikers on the Moanalua Middle Ridge Trail. A total of four HFD units, staffed with 12 personnel, were dispatched to this emergency. The first unit arrived at the scene at 2:58 p.m., established command and secured a landing zone at Moanalua Valley Neighborhood Park.
Three females had been hiking for over four hours and were unable to descend the trail on their own. Air 1 inserted rescue personnel to the hikers’ location, then packaged and airlifted them to the nearby landing zone where medical care was declined.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
