On May 24, 2023, the Honolulu Fire Department received a 911 call at 12:03 p.m. for a
two-alarm fire at 68-155 Au Street in Mokuleia and responded with 11 units staffed with
36 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 12:12 p.m. to find a working fire at a
five-story residential structure with smoke and flames emanating from a third floor unit.
Fire fighters immediately secured a water source and deployed hoselines to make an
offensive fire attack. During the fire attack, HFD personnel simultaneously searched for
any occupants in the units on the fire floor and above the fire floor. Unfortunately, a male
in his 70s was found deceased inside the unit where the fire originated. The HFD
notified the Emergency Medical Services, the Office of the Medical Examiner, and to
assist the displaced occupants, the American Red Cross. The fire was under control by
12:48 p.m. and extinguished at 1:04 p.m.
The HFD Fire Investigator was also dispatched to the scene to determine the cause and
origin of the fire and to provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the
final investigation report is complete.
