HIKER RESCUED FROM THE KOKO HEAD CRATER TRAIL IN HAWAII KAI

On July 30, 2023, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 10:11
a.m. for a sick hiker near the Koko Head Crater Trail in Hawaii Kai and responded with
five HFD units, staffed with 16 personnel. The first HFD unit arrived at the scene at
10:19 a.m., established command and made their way to the hiker’s location on foot. A
second unit secured a landing zone nearby.

It was reported that a male in his 30s became ill while hiking and was unable to
descend on his own. HFD personnel arrived at the hiker’s location at 10:32 a.m., where
they conducted a medical assessment and provided basic life support. The hiker was
then packaged for extraction and transported via Air 1 to the landing zone. Medical care
was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 10:59 a.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
