HIKERS RESCUED ON THE LULUMAHU FALLS TRAIL IN NUUANU

On October 17, 2023, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 6:44
p.m. for lost hikers on the Lulumahu Falls Trail in Nuuanu and responded with 5 units
staffed with 12 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 6:57 p.m., established
command and secured a nearby landing zone. The second-arriving unit prepared for air
operations since the hikers’ location was above the waterfall.

It was reported that one male and one female hiker in their 30s was lost and unable to
find their way back to the trailhead. Air 1 inserted rescue personnel to the hikers’
location where they performed a medical assessment and confirmed both hikers were
uninjured. The hikers were then safely transported via Air 1 to the landing zone at 8:13
p.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
