RESIDENTIAL BUILDING FIRE EXTINGUISHED IN EWA BEACH

On October 17, 2023, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 4:56
p.m. for a building fire at 91-401 Papipi Drive in Ewa Beach and responded with 10 units
staffed with approximately 35 personnel. The first unit arrived at the scene at 5:01 p.m.
to find smoke emanating from a small, single-story residential structure.

Fire fighters secured a water supply and commenced an offensive fire attack. The fire
was brought under control and contained to one room at 5:09 p.m. and extinguished at
5:14 p.m. One male occupant in his 30s suffered an injury while attempting to extinguish
the fire prior to the HFD’s arrival. Emergency Medical Services was at the scene to treat
the injured occupant. All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.

An investigation has been initiated to determine the fire’s origin and cause and to
provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report
is complete.
