MISSING DIVER RETRIEVED NEAR MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII IN KANEOHE

On October 21, 2023, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 8:48
a.m. for a missing diver offshore of the Marine Corps Base Hawaii in the Kaneohe area
and responded with 5 units staffed with 13 personnel. The first HFD unit arrived at 8:58
a.m. and gained access to the shoreline to investigate. HFD rescuer personnel board
Air 1 while they were enroute to the scene and loaded the necessary equipment onto
the aircraft for air operations. The City and County of Honolulu’s
Ocean Safety (OS) and Federal Fire Department (FFD) also responded.

It was reported that a free diver was missing about 100 yards offshore near Pond Road
after being separated from his dive partner. The first-arriving HFD personnel searched the
shoreline while the OS rescue ski began a search of the ocean. OS retrieved the
unresponsive diver from the ocean and brought him to shore. Air 1 landed and
transported the diver by air to the awaiting FFD emergency medical unit near the North
Beach area where his medical care was transferred at 10:01 a.m.

All personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries to them.
