BOATERS RESCUED OFF OF WAIKIKI AFTER VESSEL RUNS AGROUND

On October 24, 2023, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 7:35
p.m. for a boater in distress offshore of Waikiki and responded with 4 units with 13
personnel. The first unit arrived at the scene at 7:40 p.m. to investigate.

HFD units found a 27-foot sailing vessel had run aground approximately 100 yards
offshore of the Halekulani hotel. Two boaters were reported on board and uninjured.
HFD personnel on rescue boards made contact with the boaters and confirmed they
were uninjured. HFD personnel then paddled one boater to shore. HFD personnel
assisted the boat’s captain with removing the boat from the shallow grounds. The
HFD’s Rescue 1 boat towed it safely to the Ala Wai Boat Harbor at 11:16 p.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.
