On October 26, 2023, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 3:35
p.m. for a hiker in distress on the Koko Head Trail in Hawaii Kai and responded with 6
units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 3:45 p.m. and started
hiking up the trail.

It was reported that a female hiker was about halfway up the trail and having difficulties,
but wanted to continue down on her own. But bystanders felt she was unstable on her
feet and called 911. HFD personnel reached her side at 3:55 p.m., conducted a medical
assessment, and decided to fly the hiker out. The hiker was safely transported via Air 1
to a nearby landing zone, and medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical
Services at 4:26 p.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
