HIKERS RESCUED FROM THE WAAHILA RIDGE TRAIL IN KAIMUKI

On October 29, 2023, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 4:11 p.m. for lost hikers on the Waahila Ridge Trail in Kaimuki. Six HFD units, staffed with 17 personnel, responded to the emergency. The first HFD unit arrived at 4:31 p.m. and secured a landing zone at the Manoa District Park.

It was reported that a male and a female, both in their 20s were hiking for approximately six hours, became lost and were unable to descend the trail on their own. Rescue personnel were inserted near the hiker’s location via Air 1 and arrived at the hiker’s location at 4:59 p.m. After conducting a medical assessment of the hikers to ensure there were no injuries, the hikers were airlifted to the nearby landing zone with the last hiker arriving at 5:18 p.m. HFD concluded this incident with no other injuries reported by personnel.
