HFD RESCUES HIKER FROM MOUNTAINS ABOVE NUUANU

On October 30, 2023, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 4:18 p.m.
for a lone male hiker, in the mountains above Nuuanu Valley, suffering from exhaustion and
dehydration. HFD responded with 4 units staffed with 12 personnel.

The first unit arrived on scene at 4:31 p.m. and secured a landing zone. Air 2 found the
hiker and lowered a rescue personnel to his location at 4:59 p.m. A medical assessment
was performed and found the hiker uninjured. Air 2 then picked up the hiker and flew him to
the landing zone shortly after 5 p.m. The hiker declined the services of EMS.

HFD concluded this incident with no injuries reported by personnel.
