WILDLAND FIRE CONTAINED IN KAPOLEI

On November 18, 2023, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at
11:14 p.m. for a wildland fire reported in a vacant lot owned by the Department of
Hawaiian Homelands on Malakole Street in Kapolei and responded with 15 units staffed
with 45 personnel.

The fire impacted approximately 2 acres of land and was declared under control at
12:45 a.m and 100% contained at 1:11 a.m. The Fire Investigator and HFD’s
Unmanned Aircraft System (Drone) Team were requested to assist with determining the
fire’s origin and cause.

The Fire Investigator has classified the fire as accidental due to aerial fireworks. This
incident was also referred to the Honolulu Police Department due to the discovery of
illegal aerial fireworks found fronting the wildland fire site.

All HFD personnel are currently accounted for with no reports of injuries at this time.
