On November 21, 2023, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 10:27 a.m. for a building fire near the corner of Mokauea Street and Republican Street in Kalihi and initially responded with 10 units staffed with 39 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 10:27 a.m. to find smoke and flames emanating from the second floor of a two-story residential building.
Fire fighters secured a water supply and initiated an aggressive fire attack with hand lines to bring the fire under control at 10:30 a.m. All searches for occupants confirmed that there was no one in the building during the incident. Overhaul techniques were also performed to look for hidden fire in void spaces and confirmed that the fire did not extend into adjacent areas of the building. The fire was extinguished at 10:35 a.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries at this time.
