CAUSE OF WILDLAND FIRE IN WAIANAE WAS ACCIDENTAL

UPDATE: The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) Investigator has classified the cause of
the fire that occurred on November 14, 2023 at the updated incident address of 85-1710
Haleahi Road in Waianae as accidental. Downed power lines, due to high winds, ignited
the wildland fire. Two exposures were damaged – a house and multiple chicken coops.
The damage estimate for the house was $119,000 to the property and $3,000 to the
contents. The damage estimate to the chicken coops was $22,000 to the property and
$1,000 to the contents.
