On November 30, 2023, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 8:55 a.m. for a building fire at 780 Amana Street in Honolulu. HFD responded with 11 units staffed with 43 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 9:00 a.m. to find flames emanating near the fourteenth floor of a nineteen-story high-rise apartment building.
Fire fighters secured a water supply, initiated an aggressive fire attack with handlines, and placed water on the fire at 9:11 a.m. All searches for occupants confirmed that there was no one on the floors that were involved in the incident. The fire was extinguished at 9:34 a.m. Overhaul techniques were also performed to look for hidden fires in void spaces and confirmed that the fire did not extend into adjacent units of the building. While descending the stairwell and evacuating the building, a resident experienced a laceration that was treated by the Emergency Medical Services. There were no other reports of injuries to any other resident of the building. All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.
The American Red Cross was notified to assist three individuals who were displaced.
The HFD Fire Investigator was requested to determine the origin and cause of the fire as well as provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
