TWO-ALARM RESIDENTIAL BUILDING FIRE EXTINGUISHED IN HALEIWA

On December 2, 2023, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 3:39
p.m. for a building fire near 61-167 Punalau Place in Haleiwa and responded with 10
units staffed with 35 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 3:49 p.m. to find a
two-story residential building fully involved with fire.

Fire fighters secured a water supply and initiated an aggressive fire attack with
handlines and a high-volume, truck-mounted nozzle to bring the fire under control at
4:17 p.m. All searches for occupants confirmed that there was no one in the
building during the incident. Overhaul techniques were performed to look for hidden fire
in void spaces in the home where the fire started and ensure the fire
did extend into neighboring homes. The fire was extinguished at 5:33 p.m. All HFD
personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.

The American Red Cross was requested to assist the individuals who are displaced.

The HFD Fire Investigator was requested to determine the origin and cause of the fire as
well as provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final
investigation report is complete.
