RESIDENTIAL BUILDING FIRE EXTINGUISHED IN EWA BEACH

On December 5, 2023, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 5:24
p.m. for a building fire at 91-996 Papapuhi Place in Ewa Beach and responded with 10
units staffed with approximately 35 personnel. The first unit arrived at the scene at 5:30
p.m. to find smoke and flames emanating from the second floor of a small, two-story
residential structure.

Fire fighters secured a water supply and commenced an offensive fire attack. The fire
was brought under control at 5:38 p.m. and extinguished at 5:58 p.m. Occupants
reported that the home’s smoke detectors alerted them of the fire and initiated their
immediate evacuation to safety. The American Red Cross was notified to assist the
seven individuals who were displaced due to the fire.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries. An investigation has
been initiated to determine the fire’s origin and cause and to provide damage estimates.
An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
