On December 7, 2023, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a call from the
Honolulu Police Department at 12:11 p.m. for a person reported missing on December
4, 2023 with a last known location near the Pali Notches Trail. Five HFD units staffed
with approximately 13 personnel responded to the scene. The first unit arrived at the
Pali Lookout at 12:27 p.m. established command and investigated further. A second unit
prepared for air operations.

The Honolulu Police Department provided the hiker’s last known geolocation and Air 1
initiated a search by air based on that vital information. Upon locating the missing hiker,
rescue personnel were lowered to his location approximately 1,000 feet below the trail.
Rescue personnel made contact with the hiker at 1:51 p.m., conducted a medical
assessment, and provided basic life support. The hiker was then packaged and safely
airlifted to the landing zone where medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical
Services at 2:24 p.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
