INJURED HIKER RESCUED FROM WAAHILA RIDGE TRAIL

On December 23, 2023, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 1:02
p.m. for an injured hiker on the Waahila Ridge Trail and responded with 5 units staffed
with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived at 1:15 p.m., secured a landing zone nearby
and prepared for air operations.

It was reported that a group of three hikers were on the trail when a 50-year-old male
suffered a shoulder injury and could not continue on his own. Air 1 inserted a rescue person
at 1:39 p.m. and conducted a medical assessment and provided basic life support. He was then packaged and airlifted safely to the nearby landing zone at 1:49 p.m. where medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services. The other two hikers in his group safely hiked out on their own.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.
