On December 27, 2023, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at
9:48 a.m. for a hiker experiencing a medical emergency on the Diamond Head Crater
Trail in Kahala and responded with 5 units staffed with 13 personnel. The first unit
arrived on scene at 9:55 a.m., established command and secured a landing zone to
prepare for air operations.
It was reported that a male in his 70s was hiking near the top of the trail when he
experienced a medical emergency and was unable to descend the trail on his own. HFD
personnel arrived at the hiker’s location at 10:16 a.m., conducted a medical
assessment, and provided basic life support. The hiker was then safely transported via
Air 1 to the landing zone where medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical
Services at 10:32 a.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
