LARGE RUBBISH FIRE EXTINGUISHED IN AIEA

On December 29, 2023, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 5:44
p.m. for a large rubbish fire near 98-107 Kamehameha Highway and responded with 7
units staffed with approximately 26 personnel. The first unit arrived at the scene at 5:52
p.m. to find a large rubbish pile on fire. The pile was approximately 16 feet in height,
covering a 20 foot x 30 foot area.

Fire fighters secured a water supply and commenced an offensive fire attack. The fire
was brought under control at 7:30 p.m. and extinguished at 8:45 p.m. No structures were
threatened or damaged.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries. An investigation has
been initiated to determine the fire’s origin and cause and to provide damage estimates.
An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
