STORE IN NUUANU EVACUATED DUE TO A POSSIBLE HAZARDOUS MATERIAL SITUATION

On January 3, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 3:09
p.m. for a possible hazardous material situation at the 7-11 store in Nuuanu and
responded with 3 units staffed with 11 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 3:15
p.m. to investigate the source of the complaint.

It was reported that a suspect dispersed a white powder-like substance in the store then
left. Once the Honolulu Police Department declared the scene secure, the HFD
evacuated the store and the second floor of the building then cordoned off the
immediate area. Upon arrival, HazMat personnel conducted trace sampling on the
unknown substance and all tests came back negative for any hazardous materials.

A total of three people were affected by the powder-like substance. HFD personnel
conducted a medical assessment and provided basic life support until medical care was
transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 3:31 p.m.

Once the HazMat unit deemed the building safe, employees were allowed to return and
operate their business as usual.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
