On January 4, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 5:32 p.m. for a building fire near 2051 Ala Mahamoe Street in Moanalua and responded with 10 units staffed with 38 personnel. While enroute, the responding officer upgraded the incident to a second-alarm emergency requesting additional resources because of the smoke column that he saw rising into the air prior to arrival. Being the first unit arriving on scene at 5:39 p.m., he reported finding smoke and flames emanating from the side of a small, split-level residential building.
Fire fighters secured a water supply and initiated an aggressive fire attack with
handlines to bring the fire under control at 5:49 p.m. All searches for occupants confirmed that there was no one in the building during the incident. Overhaul techniques were performed to look for hidden fire in void spaces of the building to ensure the fire did not extend into other portions of the home. The fire was extinguished at 6:44 p.m. All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.
The HFD Fire Investigator was requested to determine the origin and cause of the fire as
well as provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final
investigation report is complete.
