TWO-ALARM COMMERCIAL BUILDING FIRE EXTINGUISHED IN KAIMUKI

On January 12, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 4:37 a.m. for a structure fire near 1127 11th Avenue in Kaimuki and responded with 10 units staffed with 38 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 4:43 a.m., they reported a working fire with white smoke emitting from the roof of a one level commercial structure, and upgraded this incident with a second alarm complement of HFD resources.

Fire fighters secured a water supply and initiated an aggressive fire attack with handlines to bring the fire under control at 5:03 a.m. All searches for occupants confirmed that there was no one in the building during the incident. Overhaul techniques were performed to look for hidden fire in void spaces of the building to ensure the fire did not extend into other portions of the structure. The fire was extinguished at 5:25 a.m. All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.

The HFD Fire Investigator was requested to determine the origin and cause of the fire as well as provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
