KAPOLEI RESTAURANTS EVACUATED DUE TO GAS LEAK

On January 16, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 8:45 p.m. for an odor of gas at the Kapolei Marketplace located at 590 Farrington Highway in Kapolei and responded
with three units staffed with 11 personnel.

The first unit arrived at 8:49 p.m. and confirmed the odor of gas and identified a leak.
HFD personnel evacuated three restaurants in the Kapolei Marketplace as a safety
precaution. HFD’s Hazardous Materials (HazMat) unit located the leak and shut off the
supply. Hawaii Gas arrived on scene and ensured all gas mains were closed. Air
monitoring was conducted and confirmed at a safe level prior to releasing the scene to
Hawaii Gas.

HFD closed this incident with no injuries reported.
