On January 18, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 5:05
a.m. for a building fire near 1438 Liliha Street in Kalihi and responded with 10 units
staffed with 35 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 5:09 a.m. to find smoke and
flames emanating from the second floor of a three story residential building.
Fire fighters secured a water supply and initiated an aggressive fire attack with
handlines to bring the fire under control at 5:22 a.m. Fire fighters assisted two
occupants out of the building. Emergency Medical Services assessed both occupants
and then transported them to a nearby hospital. All searches for further occupants
confirmed that there was no one else in the building during the incident. Overhaul
techniques were performed to look for hidden fire in void spaces of the building to
ensure the fire did not extend into neighboring homes. The fire was extinguished at 5:35
a.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.
The HFD Fire Investigator was requested to determine the origin and cause of the fire as
well as provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final
investigation report is complete.
