CAUSE OF VEHICLE FIRE EXTINGUISHED IN KALIHI WAS INCENDIARY


UPDATE: The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) Investigator has classified the cause of
the vehicle fire that occurred today fronting the address of 1707 Hoe Street in Kalihi as
incendiary. The area of origin was the front hood and windshield on the exterior of the
vehicle. The damage estimate is $1,500 to the vehicle and $500 to the contents.

The fire was determined to be intentionally set and has been referred to the Honolulu
Police Department (HPD) for criminal investigation.


VEHICLE FIRE EXTINGUISHED IN KALIHI

On January 21, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a call at 11:47 a.m.
for a vehicle fire near Hoe Street and Kalihi Street in Kalihi and responded with one unit
staffed with four personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 11:52 a.m. to find a single
vehicle fully engulfed in flames.

Fire fighters secured a water supply and initiated a fire attack to extinguish both the
vehicle and an adjacent pole at 11:59 a.m. While the fires were being extinguished, all
searches for occupants confirmed that there was no one in the vehicle at the time of the
fire.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.

This fire is under investigation to determine the origin, cause, and to provide damage
estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
