CAUSE OF THE BUILDING FIRE IN KALIHI WAS ACCIDENTAL

UPDATE: The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) Investigator has classified the cause of
the fire that occurred on January 21, 2024 at 238 Sand Island Access Road in Kalihi as
accidental. The area of origin was the top floor of the structure. The ignition source was
a halogen lamp that was left on and fell into a pile of fabrics that then ignited.
Fortunately, the fire sprinkler system extinguished the fire. The damage estimate is
$5,000 to the property and $5,000 to the contents.
