On January 28, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 12:53 p.m.
for a male hiker in distress. HFD responded with 4 units staffed with 12 personnel.
The hiker’s cell phone showed he was near the Maunawili Trail above Pali Highway and he
reported that he was, “hanging from a cliff.” The first unit arrived on scene at 1:02 p.m. and
established a command post at Pali Golf Course. Air 1 spotted the hiker at 1:54 p.m.,
lowered a rescue personnel to secure the hiker, and airlifted him to Pali Golf Course. The
hiker was safe on the ground at 2:00 p.m. He declined medical treatment.
HFD concluded this incident with no injuries reported by personnel.
