CAUSE OF RUBBISH FIRE IN MAKIKI WAS ACCIDENTAL

UPDATE: The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) Investigator has classified the cause of
the fire that occurred on February 3, 2024 at 1809 Keeaumoku Street as accidental. The
point of fire origin was a fire pit used to cook in the front yard of the property. Wind-driven
embers from the extinguished cooking fire traveled and ignited combustible items stored
in the front yard eventually spreading to three vehicles that were parked nearby. The
damage estimate is $1,000 to the contents of the property and $15,500 to the vehicles.
