TWO-ALARM RESIDENTIAL BUILDING FIRE EXTINGUISHED IN KAIMUKI

On February 3, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 4:38
a.m. for a building fire near 735 15th Avenue in Kaimuki and responded with 10 units
staffed with 39 personnel. The 911 callers reported that alarms were ringing and they
could smell and see smoke from the front house. While the responding companies were
enroute, the fire dispatchers instructed the 911 callers to exit their homes and gather at a
safe location. The first responding unit arrived on scene at 4:43 p.m. to find smoke
emanating from the front and discovered flames from the side of a single-story
residential building.

Fire fighters secured a water supply and initiated an aggressive fire attack with
handlines on the exterior and got water on the fire at 4:46 a.m. Other fire fighters used
forcible entry to enter the house to bring the fire under control at 4:52 p.m. All searches
for occupants confirmed that there was no one in the building during the
incident. Overhaul techniques were performed to look for hidden fire in void spaces of
the house to ensure the fire did not extend into other portions of the home. The fire was
extinguished at 5:08 a.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.

The HFD Fire Investigator was requested to determine the origin and cause of the fire as
well as provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final
investigation report is complete.
