HFD RESCUES HIKER ON MANANA TRAIL IN PEARL CITY

On February 9, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 text at 3:57 p.m. for a lost male hiker and responded with 4 units staffed with 14 personnel.

Due to poor cellular reception, the hiker could not make phone calls with his cellular phone, but he was able to text 911 that he was alone, lost and uninjured. His cellular signal confirmed that his location was near the Waimano Pool portion of the Manana Trail. Air 1 spotted the hiker at 4:34 p.m. and inserted rescue personnel to guide the hiker to a more accessible location for Air 1. The hiker and rescue personnel were then airlifted to a landing zone at Waiau District Park, where they were safe on the ground at 4:57 p.m.

HFD concluded this incident with no injuries reported by personnel.
