On February 18, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 10:11 a.m. for an injured hiker on the Maunalaha Trail in Makiki and responded with 4 units staffed with 12 personnel. The first-arriving unit established command and ascended the trail on foot.
It was reported that a female in her 70s suffered an injury was unable to return to the trailhead on her own. The hiker’s location was approximately 20 minutes into the trail. HFD personnel made contact with the hiker at 10:38 a.m. After medically assessing the hiker, it was decided that she would be flown out via Air 1. The hiker was safely transported to the landing zone where medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 11:17 a.m.
HFD concluded this incident with no injuries reported by personnel.
