On February 25, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 3:00
p.m. for an injured hiker on the Waimano Pool Trail in Pearl City and responded with 5
units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 3:12 p.m. and secured
a landing zone nearby in preparation for a search and rescue operation by air.
It was reported that a female hiker in her 40s had fallen and sustained an injury. Fire
dispatchers were able to obtain her location from the 911 call placed by a third party
Good Samaritan who found her on the trail. Air 1 inserted rescue personnel to her
location at 3:39 p.m. so she could be readied for an airlift extraction. Air 1 safely
airlifted her to the nearby landing zone and patient care was transferred to Emergency
Medical Services at 4:33 p.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
